Oslo Runners Discover Free Weekly 5K Parkruns Across City Parks
Oslo runners have multiple weekly 5k options across city parks that deliver timed results and community support without fees.
How we reported this

Parkrun events at Frognerparken and Sognsvann draw 150 to 220 participants every Saturday morning at 9am sharp.
Summer daylight extending past 10pm has lifted outdoor activity across Oslo neighbourhoods including Majorstuen and Grünerløkka, where residents report trading indoor treadmills for free timed runs on park paths. City data shows park usage rose 18 percent between May and early July this year compared with 2025 figures from the same period.
Frognerparken and Sognsvann routes
Frognerparken hosts its event on the wide gravel loops near the Monolith, starting and finishing by the main gates on Kirkeveien. The course stays flat and measures exactly 5km with clear kilometre markers. Sognsvann offers a lakeside loop that begins at the car park off Sognsveien, passing through pine forest and returning along the water edge. Both locations supply volunteer timers and barcode scanners at the finish line.
Records from the Oslo parkrun network list 187 finishers at Frognerparken on 4 July and 162 at Sognsvann the same day. Average finish times sit at 28 minutes 40 seconds across both sites, with no entry cost and results posted online within two hours. The events have run continuously since 2019 except for a three-month pause in 2020.
Getting started this weekend
Participants register once on the parkrun website, print a barcode and arrive 15 minutes early for the pre-start briefing. Public transport reaches Frognerparken via tram 12 to Kirkeveien and reaches Sognsvann via metro line 5 to the end station. Runners of all paces join, including walkers and families with pushchairs, and the next events take place on 11 July at both parks.
